Nate Harris is victorious in the second ever combat jiu jitsu match!

May 21

This past weekend, 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Santa Fe purple belt Nate Harris traveled to Los Angeles to compete in the second ever combat jiu jitsu match on the University of MMA‘s ‘Fight Night 2’ card.

Combat Jiu Jitsu is the brain child of Eddie Bravo who’s goal with it is to “fill that hole between MMA and grappling”. Essentially, CJJ is identical in rules as amateur MMA minus the ability to kick or punch on the feet. Once there is a take down is when striking is allowed.

The first CJJ match was held on May 20th, 2012 on the University of MMA’s ‘Champions of Tomorrow’ card and saw 10th Planet brown belt Erik ‘Compella’ Cruz take the win over Kristopher Gonzalez of King’s MMA with a rear naked choke late in the first round.

In a bit of deja vue, on May 19th, 2013, our own ‘Nasty’ Nate Harris scored the win over Jorge Pineda of King’s MMA…. with a rear naked choke late in the first round.

This was a great experience and opportunity that we were ecstatic to be a part of. Combat jiu jitsu is only going to get bigger from here and 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is leading from the front!
